Underbalanced and Managed Pressure Drilling

Underbalanced operations

The interest in underbalanced drilling (UBD) and managed pressure drilling (MPD)operations is increasing in the industry. There are several reasons for the interest, both from the drilling side and from the reservoir side.

On the drilling side, UBD/MPD has the advantages of preventing lost circulation, minimizing the risk for differential sticking, extending bit life, increasing penetration rates and reducing rig time. On the reservoir side, UBD can avoid formation damage, increase well productivity, eliminate the need for stimulation prior to production and evaluate the formation while drilling.

On the other hand, UBD/MPD involves complex operations which make the well planning and design more complicated. The challenge is to identify and avoid the potential problems and, at the same time, make full use of UBD. Dynaflodrill has been developed to deal with that challenge - to identify any potential problem with the design and make the decision-making right and easy.
