Research & Development
Technology in SPT Group originates in joint projects with reputable R&D organizations and the involvement of oil and gas companies. SPT Group holds the intellectual property rights to all main products in its portfolio. Here are some details of the development history of our products.
OLGA
Research in the nuclear field was leveraged in the early 1970s and adapted to the demands of flow assurance in the oil industry. OLGA was conceived in the laboratories at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and SINTEF, and in 1989 Scandpower was awarded the task of commercializing and maintaining the product. Since then, SPT Group has championed many R&D projects to ensure the continued development and industry adaptation of OLGA.
Drillbench
Based on more than 15 years of drilling research from Rogaland Research and sponsored by Agip, BP, ExxonMobil, Hydro, PDVSA, Petrobras, Statoil, and Total, Drillbench provides a combination of steady-state and transient models verified extensively against actual data and proven through field implementation.
MEPO
Conceptual developments and research were started at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany in the early 1990s. SPT Group secured the technology in 1999 and continued the development for leveraging the technology in the reservoir field through establishing a link with Eclipse® and starting a Joint Industry Project (JIP) with ENI, Hydro, Statoil and Total in 2001. The first commercial version of MEPO was released in 2004 and SPT Group continues research and validation to ensure the cutting edge results from the solution.
